Our Board

The Heart Foundation Board determines strategy, while management is responsible for ensuring our strategy is effectively implemented.

The role of the Board is to provide strategic oversight and direction for the Heart Foundation’s activities and ensure that those organisational activities are directed towards achieving its vision of an Australia free of heart disease and its mission to prevent heart disease and improve the heart health and quality of life of all Australians through our work in prevention, support and care and research. The Board ensure that the vision and mission are achieved in the most efficient and effective way. 

Our Directors

Mr Mario D’Orazio (Chair)

Mario D’Orazio has more than 40 years’ experience in media as a journalist, including print as a reporter and columnist, radio as a producer and talkback presenter, and TV as a reporter, presenter and executive producer of news, current affairs programs and lifestyle programs. Read more.

Associate Professor David Colquhoun

Associate Professor David Colquhoun is a cardiologist in private practice. He is also actively involved in research and preventative cardiology; these activities are reflected in his role on the Heart Foundation’s Heart Health and Research Committees. Read more.

Associate Professor Nicholas Cox

Associate Professor Nicholas Cox is an interventional cardiologist with an interest in infarct angioplasty and cardiogenic shock. A/Prof Cox was an early advocate for the use of radial access for coronary intervention and has published in this field. Read more.

Ms Isabelle Demir

Isabelle Demir has more than 20 years, experience in infrastructure investments and advisory across Australasia, Europe and the Middle East. She is Chair of the Heart Foundation’s Investment Committee. Read more.

Professor Ray Mahoney

Ray Mahoney is the Discipline Lead of Population Health and Professor of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health in the College of Medicine and Public Health at Flinders University & Principal Research Scientist in the Australian eHealth Research Centre, Health & Biosecurity at CSIRO. Read more.

Risk, Audit and Governance Committee

The Risk Audit and Governance Committee advises the Board on its audit, risk and governance compliance role and supports the Board to ensure the Heart Foundation operates effectively and meets it legal and compliance responsibilities.
