Blood pressure and your heart

Blood pressure is the pressure of your blood on the walls of your arteries as your heart pumps it around your body. Your blood pressure will go up and down naturally throughout the day depending on what you are doing, especially if you are doing exercise.

Meet Dr Geoff Lester: “I’ve been a patient longer than I’ve been a doctor.”

Geoff recalls the night of 9th December 2009, when his aorta tore (the main artery that carries blood from your heart to the rest of your body), marking a pivotal moment at the age of 24. He underwent the first of four open-heart surgeries. This experience spurred a career change to study medicine.
