Impact of dietary risk factors post myocardial infarction

Dr Daisy Coyle, University of Melbourne

2023 Postdoctoral Fellowship

Years funded: 2024 - 2025

While better treatments and care have significantly reduced the fatality rate of many cardiovascular diseases (CVD), the risk of recurrent heart attacks, strokes and mortality after an initial CVD event remains high.

Despite, the well established role of dietary interventions for primary CVD prevention, there is surprisingly limited understanding of the role of diet in those who have experienced a CVD event.

This project aims to better understand the main dietary risk factors and optimal dietary patterns for reducing secondary CVD. The ultimate goal is to reduce death and disease for those who experience a heart attack or other CVD events, in both Australia and globally.
