Thanks to quick-thinking paramedics and a life-saving stent procedure, Helen survived, but her heart was never the same.
“She was incredibly grateful for the care she received,” says her daughter, Sami. “It made her realise just how important heart health is—and how vital the work of organisations like the Heart Foundation really is.”
Helen lived another 27 years, managing chronic heart disease, a pacemaker and defibrillator, and ongoing respiratory conditions including emphysema and pulmonary disease. But her health challenges never stopped her from giving back and Helen remained closely involved with the causes she cared about.
She supported the Heart Foundation for decades. Through regular donations, by volunteering in the door knock appeal, and, by leaving a gift in her Will.
“She had a few organisations that were really important to her, and she supported them in every way she could,” Sami said. “It wasn’t just about financial support —she gave her time and energy because she genuinely cared.”
That final act of generosity has ensured Helen’s values will continue to make a positive impact, helping fund life-saving research and support services for others facing heart disease.
“She would be pleased to know that she’s still helping others, even now,” said Sami. “She didn’t just care – she took action.”
Thanks to Helen’s generous decision to leave a gift in her Will, the values she lived by will continue to make a difference for years to come.
