Professor Garry Jennings - AO

Chief Medical Advisor

Professor Garry Jennings, AO is the Heart Foundation’s Chief Medical Advisor with extensive leadership experience including roles as Director of the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and Executive Director of Sydney Health Partners, interim CEO of the Heart Foundation, and Director of Cardiology at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne. He holds honorary cardiologist or professional positions at Alfred Health, The University of Sydney, and Monash University, and co-chairs key Australian national cardiovascular guidelines. With over 700 peer-reviewed publications cited more than 60,000 times, he is also an Associate Editor for the journal of Hypertension and a public commentator on cardiovascular health.

Professor Jennings will continue to provide strategic medical leadership and expert advice as the Heart Foundation transitions in full to Professor Derek Chew as Chief Scientific and Medical Officer by the end of 2027. During this period, Professor Jennings continues to lead key scientific and clinical priorities, including co-chairing committees for guidelines that are already underway, contributing to national clinical leadership and mentoring the next generation of cardiovascular leaders.

Professor Garry Jennings has held the role of Chief Medical Advisor since 2016. During his longstanding involvement with the Heart Foundation, he has previously held the position of interim Chief Executive Officer on two occasions and prior to his executive appointments as a representative of the Board (2002–2012).

Our Board
