Our emergency response to cardiovascular events, including stroke, has vastly improved. Nonetheless, many people are still left with disability. Current stroke recovery options have limited impact as we don’t know how much to do (dose).
To change this, the priority is systematic testing of options using an approach that begins with learning what dose(s) are safe and feasible. I will use new adaptive trial designs to efficiently address the dose knowledge gap - finding the most promising dose(s) for people living with stroke. This will accelerate evidence formation and benefit future patients. To enable more cardiovascular researchers to use a systematic approach, I will co-design a toolkit with people with stroke and researchers.
My research will transform the way cardiovascular research is done. It will establish a higher standard for trials, led by Australia, for global use; and move the field closer to finding what drives best recovery. Ultimately this can enable better clinical care - helping more people to get back to what matters most.
