Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability. Among those who survive stroke, almost half experience a recurrent vascular event within 10 years. Specific medicines help to reduce the risk, but I have previously shown that one in three survivors of stroke stop taking these medicines within one year.
My research will generate novel evidence on the real-world uptake and effectiveness of pharmaceuticals (complementary medicines, prescription medicines and vaccines) for the prevention of first-ever and recurrent stroke. This knowledge will support improved use of pharmaceuticals to reduce the burden of stroke.
