Media release: Friday 12 December 2025

Celebrating Australia’s most inspiring volunteer walk organisers

The Heart Foundation is proud to announce the winners of the 2025 Golden Shoe Awards, recognising the outstanding dedication of volunteer walk organisers across Australia.

Heart Foundation Walking is one of Australia’s largest free walking programs, that has supported over 400,000 people through walking groups and Personal Walking Plans.

The Golden Shoe Awards celebrate individuals who go above and beyond to foster supportive, connected, and healthy Heart Foundation Walking groups in their communities.

This year’s winners include:

Rising Star Award

For organisers who have made a significant impact in less than one year

Winner: Tracey French, RTC Walking Group, QLD

Tracey, based in the Gold Coast, founded her group in March and quickly grew it to approximately 80 members. Her welcoming nature and outstanding organisational skills have created a vibrant community. Tracey not only leads regular walks but also coordinates social events and charitable initiatives, making her a true rising star in the program.

Lifetime Strider Award

For long-term, consistent service

Winner: Dawn Campbell, Wynnam Manly Walkers, QLD

Dawn is celebrated for over 17 years of dedicated service to her Brisbane bayside walking group. Her warm, inclusive leadership has transformed the group into a supportive and loyal community, promoting friendship, combating isolation, and enhancing overall wellbeing. Dawn is recognised as one of life’s ‘treasures’ for her sustained commitment.

Above and Beyond Award

For going the extra mile, literally or figuratively, to help others

Winner: Ian Watson, Mighty West Walkers, VIC

Ian founded the Mighty West Heart Foundation Walking Group in 2019, turning a personal health challenge into a mission to connect others. Growing the group from three walkers into a vibrant family-like community, Ian’s tireless efforts—organising special walks, social events, and outreach programs—ensure every member feels supported, valued, and connected.
