About the Heart of the Nation program

Heart of the Nation was founded in 2020 by Greg Page, the original yellow Wiggle, following his own cardiac arrest during a performance. Saved by the quick action of bystanders using cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and an automated external defibrillator (AED), Greg was inspired to raise awareness and improve access to AEDs across Australia.

The Michael Hughes Foundation was founded in 2015 and was dedicated to turning bystanders into responders through CPR and AED education in New South Wales. Merging with Heart of the Nation in 2022 helped to further the mission of the two organisations and continue to improve survival from cardiac arrest.

Heart of the Nation has become a new flagship program within the Heart Foundation

In 2025, Heart of the Nation became a flagship program within the Heart Foundation, ensuring the continuation and expansion of the life-saving legacy that Heart of the Nation has built. This gives the Heart of the Nation’s programs access to the national reach and expertise of the Heart Foundation, helping to improve cardiac arrest survival rates throughout Australia.
