Changes to cheque donations

Australia is phasing out cheques, but your support is still needed

You may have heard that banks across Australia are phasing out cheque payments. This is a nationwide change, led by financial institutions and endorsed by the Australian Government.

While the Heart Foundation is still accepting cheque donations for now, we are preparing to phase them out in line with this national transition.

Key dates to know

  • Australian banks are expected to phase out cheques from June 2028.
  • Cheques will no longer be an accepted form of payment from July 2029.

The Heart Foundation will align with the national timeline. We'll keep you updated along the way, so you have time to adjust.

You can find more details about Australia’s cheques transition by contacting your bank directly or visiting the Australian Treasury website.
