Exercise and brain volume loss after stroke
Associate Professor Amy Brodtmann is the recipient of our most prestigious award, the Future Leader Fellowship.
She is examining modifiable risk factors that may predict brain shrinkage (or atrophy) after a stroke. Using the latest brain imaging techniques, Amy and her team will accurately measure brain size in 100 stroke patients over one year. They will identify which cardiovascular risk factors are associated with brain atrophy after stroke, and whether cardiovascular exercise improves this loss.
Results from this study are potentially practice-changing, informing and guiding post-stroke investigations and therapies.
