Support and Prevention:
Our
Health Information Service is Australia's only heart health information service. Our team are all fully qualified health professionals, who love having a good ol' heart to heart. Call 1300 36 27 87 during business hours (cost of a local call) or
send them an email.
The Heart Foundation also develops best-care clinical guidelines for doctors to ensure hospital patients receive world-class care, no matter where they live.
Medical breakthroughs:
We have helped achieve some of the most significant heart health medical breakthroughs in the world. From the introduction of pacemakers, to pioneering healthier food choices through the Tick program, we are striving to provide the very best heart health information for Australians. For every $1 invested in cardiovascular research there is an enormous $8 return on investment.
Research:
The Heart Foundation is the largest source of funding for leading-edge heart research outside of the government. We're funding more than 150 research awards this year alone.

We're funding research to help understand CHF
The University of Melbourne's Dr Dominic Ng runs a research team that is looking at a specific type of molecule called STAT3 that controls which genes are active in the heart. Dr Ng is looking to see if targeting STAT3, or some of the genes it controls, can reduce weakening of the heart muscle during CHF. This pioneering study will help improve our understanding of CHF as a disease, and drive the discovery of new drugs to help manage it.
We've been carrying out extensive research in the cardiac field for the last 12 years in Australia, since beginning my PhD looking at proteins that control CHF. For the last seven years, I have been fortunate that the Heart Foundation has helped me proceed with my research, allowing one set of our research findings to lay the foundation for the next.
We are at a very exciting stage of research as we are now unravelling what controls CHF at the molecular and cellular level. This will underpin the discovery of the next generation of drug treatments that we believe could ultimately reduce the incidence of CHF".
Public Awareness:
The Heart Foundation conducts ongoing public awareness campaigns to raise awareness of cardiovascular health in Australia. We also run Jump Rope for Heart, Australia's best school-based skipping program and many community based walking programs.
