Making a difference
The Heart Foundation Tick was established in 1989 to improve the food supply by challenging food companies to develop healthier foods.
Food companies accepted the Heart Foundations Tick's challenge to make a real difference to the health of Australians.
Tick:
-
Removed 235 tonnes of salt in just one year when just one manufacturer reformulated 12 breakfast cereals to Tick nutrition standards; Click here for more information on this study.
-
Helped educate consumers on why we need healthier fats such as those found in avocados, nuts, eggs, salad dressings and margarine;
-
Created the first puff pastry free of industrially produced trans fat when reformulating meat pies to meet Tick's new criteria and cutting a third of the kilojoules in the process;
-
Required foods with the Tick to display Nutritional Information Panels 13 years before they were mandatory; and
-
Lobbied for mandatory labelling of saturated fat to make it easier to spot unhealthy fats.
