Publicising your team

Many teams become very well known in their local area and as a result are called upon to take part in many community events such as school fetes, street parades, local shows and other ‘out of school hours’ events. The best way to get your team known is to contact all the schools within your local area, either by phone or mail, and let them know about your team and the types of events you are available for.

You could also contact your local newspaper. Try and speak to the news editor, health writer or sports reporter. Send a media release to the journalist you spoke to. Try and include photographs if you have any. It is a good idea to follow up by ringing the journalist to see if the release has been received and if further information is needed.
