Listen to your heart and support the Heart Foundation Doorknock Appeal this September
During the month of September more than 110,000 kind-hearted volunteers will be knocking on doors for the Heart Foundation Doorknock Appeal.
The Heart Foundation urges everyone to listen to their heart and give generously to local volunteer collectors to help raise much needed funding to support critical research and community programs to improve awareness, prevention and treatment of heart disease and stroke.
The Heart Foundation is an independent charity that funds life saving research, supports health professionals and promotes health in the community. Most of our funding comes from donations from the public and is essential to helping reduce the suffering and death caused by heart disease in Australia. Heart disease is the single leading cause of death for both men and women in Australia, killing one Australian every 22 minutes.
Heart Foundation Doorknock Appeal volunteers can be easily recognised as they will be wearing a badge with the Heart Foundation logo and the words Volunteer Collector Official Identification Badge. The badge also has the volunteer’s ID number and an expiry date of September 2010. Collectors will have an official receipt book and a small Heart Foundation collection bag.
All donations $2 and over are tax-deductible and the Heart Foundation Doorknock volunteer can issue supporters with a receipt.
If you miss your local Heart Foundation volunteer you can make a credit card donation directly with the Heart Foundation Doorknock Hotline 1800 55 22 55 or by visiting www.heartfoundation.org.au/doorknock

Approximately 90 local government attendees were entertained by two guest speakers, Parliamentary Secretary, the Hon. Maxine McKew, and Dr Gillian McFeat-Lin, President of the ACT Heart Foundation.
The breakfast launched an exciting partnership between both organisations committed to raising the awareness of heart disease in women through the Go Red for Women campaign. A one-off award was announced to recognise the important leadership role women play in local communities in championing strategies towards improving heart health, such as running self defence classes for women.

This landmark Report describes the current impact of cardiovascular disease (CVD) on Australian women and dispels the myths that CVD is not an important health issue for women.
