Focus Grants now open

Applications for 2014 Heart Foundation Focus Grants are now open. Cardiovascular researchers are invited to apply for project grants to address the research questions proposed. The questions investigate food portion sizes, encouraging businesses to reduce sitting time in the workplace, recalibrating the cardiovascular risk assessment tool and investigating the experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients in hospital following a cardiac event. A team of enthusiastic researchers will undertake Run Melbourne to raise essential funds and awareness of the Heart Foundation's lifesaving research. The researchers will run and walk on Sunday 27 July, joining thousands of people promoting healthy living and raising money for charity. Read more
Young heart researcher to join top scientists

Heart Foundation Postgraduate Scholar, Lauren Cornall, has been invited to the prestigious Commonwealth Science Conference to be held in India in November. Lauren, a research student at Victoria University, is one of 70 outstanding PhD students from across the Commonwealth invited to the conference, which was last held nearly 50 years ago. Read more
Statement following ABC investigation into ABC Catalyst program

The National Heart Foundation of Australia has welcomed the findings from ABC’s independent Audience and Consumer Affairs Unit which found the ABC Catalyst program Heart Of The Matter breached ABC standards on impartiality and would be removed from it’s website. Read the full statement
Funds awarded for better health partnerships

The Heart Foundation would like to congratulate Associate Professor Yves d'Udekem and Professor Nicholas Zwar on their successful grant applications in Round 3 of the NHMRC Partnerships for Better Health program. The two Heart Foundation funded researchers, were among 14 projects approved for funding by the Minister for Health, the Hon Peter Dutton MP, on 1 May. Read more
Researchers 2014 publication now available

Researchers 2014 contains a full list of research projects (and summaries) proudly supported by the Heart Foundation. It also details the number and type of awards funded by state or territory, and highlights Future Leader Fellowship recipients - the flagship award under the new funding portfolio introduced in 2012.
In 2014, the Heart Foundation is investing $13.5 million towards funding and managing cardiovascular research. This equates to 195 major research projects into the causes, prevention, management and diagnosis of cardiovascular disease and related disorders.
