Congratulations to our March prize-winner!
Congratulations from Mums United to our March competition winner, Sarah Yap from the ACT, who has won $500 worth of Tick-approved groceries.
As a busy mum of a 3 year old and an eight month old, Sarah finds it can be challenging to cook healthy meals, so she was very excited about winning $500 of healthier groceries. While she won’t need to go grocery shopping for a little while, Sarah will definitely be looking out for the Tick the next time she’s at the supermarket:
“I’ve learned a lot about the strict assessment a product must go through to earn the Tick. As a busy mum I don’t have much time to read food labels in the supermarket, but now if I see a product with a Tick I know it’s a healthier choice, and I can trust it.”

ALDI earns big Tick for widespread food improvements
The Heart Foundation is congratulating ALDI supermarkets for being the first supermarket in Australia to earn the Tick on a wide range of exclusive to ALDI brands.
ALDI’s commitment to provide shoppers with healthier foods at lower prices means that eventually a quarter of ALDI’s shelves will be stocked with Tick approved foods. This will range from fresh foods like meat, seafood, eggs, milk, and fruit and vegies to staple grocery items like bread, margarine and yoghurt.
The good news for Australian families is that with the Tick on private label products, they can now be reassured that they can purchase healthier foods whilst saving money at the checkout.
The supermarket has worked with the Heart Foundation for over 12 months to improve a large proportion of their products which now contain less salt and saturated fat, and more fibre.
A notable example is that 92% of ALDI’s breads, rolls and English muffins now have less salt, and more than 50% have met the Tick’s even higher standards. In fact, if Australian families switch to ALDI tick approved bread two tip trucks of salt could be removed from the national shopping trolley in just one week!
“This is significant because Australians eat far too much salt (sodium), increasing their blood pressure and their risk of heart attack and stroke”, said Susan Anderson, National Director for Healthy Weight at the Heart Foundation.
“Like all Tick licensees, ALDI will be subjected to random audits as part of their Tick license to make sure they continue to meet the Heart Foundation’s strict nutritional standards”, she added.
By working together, the Heart Foundation and ALDI have shown that it is possible for supermarket chains to earn Tick approval on their healthier food ranges without needing to increase prices.
The Heart Foundation hopes to challenge other food manufacturers and retailers to do the same and put the health of their customers first, which can only be good news for Australian families.
Join us for a healthier shaped Australia
Mums United is calling on families across the country to take small, easy steps towards a healthier lifestyle to collectively create a healthier shaped Australia.
With 60% of Australian adults and almost a quarter of Australian children now overweight or obese, and thus at a significantly higher risk of heart disease; tackling our expanding weight problem needs to be the nation’s top priority.
Worryingly, today’s teenagers may be the first generation in history to die at a younger age than their parents.
Most of us all have good intentions when it comes to leading a healthier lifestyle, but when we are bombarded with so much confusing and contradictory information on how to be healthy, it’s no wonder we end up dismissing it as unrealistic and irrelevant.
The great news is that small, easy changes really do add up to make a big difference to your family’s health.
Mums United is here to offer you a fresh perspective, by offering mums of Australia practical, relevant and realistic advice to improve eating habits and get their families more active. Check out our manifesto to see how we are here to support you every step of the way.
Become a part of Mums United and together we will change the shape of Australia.
