Dads and carers
Welcome to Mums United for dads and carers. We invite all the many dads and carers who contribute so much to raising a healthier family to join our Mums United community aimed at those looking for practical ideas for improving their family’s health.
Why Mums United, not Parents United?
It’s a good question. Families are more diverse than ever, and dads and carers now play a bigger part than ever before in raising the family. This is why we want families all across Australia to work together and discover how rewarding leading a healthier lifestyle can be.
We have called on mums in particular because research shows that when a mum focuses on improving her own health, the entire family benefits. Plus, almost three million of the nation’s main grocery buyers for the household are mums. So, making sure mums are clued up when it comes to making healthier choices at the supermarket can therefore make a huge difference when it comes to ensuring that the whole family eats more healthily.
Almost a quarter of Australian children, and two thirds of adults, are now overweight or obese. In order to tackle this, we know that whole families need to work together if we’re going to change the shape of Australia.
Calling all Dads and carers!
We are now calling on dads (whether you are a stay at home dad or a working dad) and carers to encourage their families to take small, easy steps towards a healthier lifestyle. Whether it’s playing mealtime games to get the kids to eat their veggies, or playing goalie in a backyard soccer game; we’d love to hear your ideas, tips and experiences. Why not join the discussion on Facebook or drop us a line at mumsunited@heartfoundation.org.au?
