Six Tick approved pizzas at Crust!
With Australians buying more than 190 million pizzas each year - our third favourite takeaway meal - the Heart Foundation believes Australians should be able to choose genuinely healthier pizzas.
The Heart Foundation has responded to public demands for healthier food choices by challenging pizza companies to provide healthier meals. Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar, a fast growing local chain with 16 outlets in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane became the first pizza chain to launch a range of six Tick approved pizzas.
The difference between a Tick approved pizza at Crust and a similar pizza from two leading chains is substantial. Crust's Tick approved pizzas have on average a third of the salt and saturated fat of comparable varieties offered by the leading two chains, virtually no trans fat and provide up to 80% of a day's recommended fibre intake for a male.
To earn the Tick, Crust had to meet all the strict nutrition and quality standards required by the Heart Foundation. Their Tick approved pizzas are made on a wholegrain crust with a generous topping of fresh vegetables and lean meat.
The popularity of pizza can't be ignored so it is great to see that a small local chain is the first pizza chain to prove that outlets can produce healthier pizzas which are still delicious.
