Peer review process
The Heart Foundation Research Program supports approximatly $13 million in research each year. To determine which applications will be funded, all applicants enter a rigorous peer review process. Assessment is not undertaken by Heart Foundation Research Program staff but rather involves multiple, independent reviews by suitably qualified researchers.
Funding deeds for 2012
Following extensive consultation with researchers and research administration officers, the new Heart Foundation introduced new funding deeds in 2010, and further modified the deeds in 2011 in response to feedback.
Thank you to all those who offered their feedback, this assisted us greatly in developing the new document and has helped us ensure that the Heart Foundation is inline with current industry standards.

Available Awards
Grants-in-Aid
The Heart Foundation awards Grants-in-Aid to support biomedical, clinical or public health (including health services) research in the cardiovascular field. Project grants of up to two years duration will be awarded.
Postgraduate Scholarships (Biomedical, Clinical, Public Health)
Biomedical, clinical and public health Postgraduate Scholarships are for nursing, medical, science or other relevant graduates seeking support for full time research studies leading to a PhD at a recognised Australian research institution. Postgraduate Scholarships are normally awarded for three years.
Postdoctoral Fellowships (Biomedical, Clinical, Public Health)
These Fellowships are available to medical and science graduates who have completed an MD or PhD award within the last five years and who are seeking support to become independent researchers. Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable for up to two years. They may be full or part-time.
Overseas Research Fellowships
Overseas Research Fellowships are available to medical and science graduates who have completed a PhD or MD award within the last 24 months.
Career Development Fellowships
The purpose of the Career Development Fellowship is to develop the career of Australian citizens or permanent residents, who are 2-12 years postdoctoral. These awards are the most prestigious offered by the program. Career Development Fellowships are tenable for four years. They may be full or part time.
Summer Scholarships
Summer Scholarships give undergraduate students an opportunity to participate in biomedical, clinical or public health research projects which are broadly related to heart, stroke and blood vessel disease.
Travel Grants
Travel Grants are available to support Australian researchers travelling to present their cardiovascular research at an overseas conference. They are also available to Indigenous health researchers travelling to present their research in Australia.
Strategic Research
In late 2007, the Heart Foundation launched a Strategic Research Program to fund research in priority areas defined by the Heart Foundation's work. The first priority area for the Strategic Research Program was Depression and Heart Disease.
South Australian Cardiovascular Research Development Program awards
The South Australian Cardiovascular Research Development Program (SACRDP) is supporting high quality research, which is relevant to heart, stroke and blood vessel disease with a focus on supporting early career researchers. The aim of this funding is to stimulate, enhance and sustain the collaborative potential of South Australian researchers
