Heart Foundation research projects in 2010

In 2010, the Heart Foundation is funding a total of 221 research projects, which equates to an allocation of almost $13 million, towards research into the causes, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease.

National Heart Foundation Conference 2011

Registration is now open for the 3rd Heart Foundation National Conference, “Heart to Heart: from Access to Action”, which will be held in Melbourne, Australia, from 17 to 19 March 2011.


The conference will host leading international and Australian presenters to showcase key clinical, research and public health issues perspectives on cardiovascular disease.

Leading international keynote speakers include:

  • Prof Dame Carol Black, Academy of Royal Medical Colleges, UK and National Director for Health and Work: The health of the working age population
  • Prof Marc Hamilton, Pennington Biomedical Research Centre: The impact of sedentary behaviour
  • Dr Finlay McAlister, University of Alberta, Canada: The Canadian Hypertension Education Program 
  • Professor C Barr Taylor, Department of Psychiatry and Medicine, Stanford University: Cardiovascular disease and co-morbid depression
  • Prof C Noel Bairey Merz, Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre: Women’s cardiovascular health
  • Prof Maurice Mittelmark, University of Bergen, Norway: Health promotion and education
  • Prof Sir Magdi Yacoub: Breakthroughs in cardiac surgery

Cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, general practitioners, nurses, cardiac technicians, public health professionals, policy makers, researchers, dietitians, nutritionists, and other allied health professionals should not miss this opportunity!

Call for Abstracts

Abstract submission is now open.

There are four categories for abstracts:

• Clinical Care: Papers on clinical issues relating to cardiology, cardiac surgery, cardiac nursing, and management of cardiovascular conditions at primary care level fall into this category.
• Basic Science: All papers on basic or biomedical research relevant to cardiovascular health fall into this category.
• Public Health: This category includes all papers on social determinants of health, primary prevention of chronic disease, health promotion, epidemiology, policy and advocacy.
• Health Services: All papers focused on health systems, whether at primary, acute, or tertiary care, or at the interface between these sectors, fall into this category.
