Research Medal for Lifetime Contribution to Cardiovascular Research
The Heart Foundation Research Medal for Lifetime Contribution to Cardiovascular Research recognises outstanding individual contribution to the fields of heart, stroke and blood vessel disease research in Australia over a sustained period.
The medal is awarded to an individual who has served as a role model through service, research and teaching. In general, the recipient of this award must have had a career spanning at least 20 years.
Previous recipients of the Research Medal have had well established research careers and are acknowledged by their peers nationally and internationally through awards, invited presentations and publications. Moreover, they have had involvement with the Heart Foundation and a history of contributions to Heart Foundation’s goals and objectives.
The inaugural Research Medal was presented to Professor Paul Nestel in 2006. In 2008, the recipient was Professor Robert (Bob) Graham. The joint winners in 2009, the Heart Foundations 50th year, were Professor John Chalmers and Professor Garry Jennings.
