Indigenous Health 

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population.

As the leading organisation in the fight against cardiovascular disease in Australia, we have nominated the cardiovascular health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, as a high priority.

Our mission

  • To reduce the prevalence of cardiovascular disease and risk factors in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations and
  • To ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have access to appropriate information and services, relating to the on going prevention and management of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Our Aims

  • To develop strategies at a national, state and territory level to address issues of cardiovascular health for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
  • To increase awareness of cardiovascular health issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations.
  • To promote collaborative networks within the Indigenous Health Sector to improve the continuum of care relating to cardiovascular health.
  • To advocate for improved support and information for health professionals.
  • To advocate for an increase of capacity to address the poor cardiovascular health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations.
