DVT
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot in one of the deep veins of the body, usually in the leg.
Deep vein thrombosis symptoms include swelling, pain and tenderness in the leg and, if not treated, can lead to a very serious complication. There is a risk that part of the blood clot may become dislodged and travel through the bloodstream to the lungs, where it can get stuck and block the flow of blood. This is called pulmonary embolism, and it is a life-threatening condition.
For this reason, if you think you may have DVT and are experiencing deep vein thrombosis symptoms, it is important to see your doctor urgently. If you experience pain in your lungs or chest or difficulty breathing, contact your doctor immediately, or go straight to a hospital emergency department.
