More about Heart Foundation Walking
Program History
Heart Foundation Walking is based on the successful Heart Foundation Just Walk It program, which was launched in Queensland in 1995. This program grew to include walking groups in some other States and Territories. Just Walk It has now expanded further to become Heart Foundation Walking, and we’re pleased to offer this wonderful program all across Australia.
Heart Foundation Walking is free!
Heart Foundation Walking is free, so everyone can join. However, donations are welcome and will help the Heart Foundation continue its work. Your support will make a difference. Click here to make a donation to the Heart Foundation.
Key features
The Heart Foundation is setting up walking groups all across Australia in partnership with local communities. Area Coordinators, who may be from health or community centres, councils or workplaces, work with the Heart Foundation to assist volunteer Walk Organisers to recruit walkers and establish groups in their communities.
The Walk Organisers then lead groups in their local area. They are provided with resources, training and support to begin and maintain their group. They also receive complimentary merchandise as a ‘thank you’ for their role in organising a local walking group.
If you get involved with Heart Foundation Walking you will be provided with information outlining the program.. You may also choose to join the Walker Recognition Scheme which includes certificates and other incentives when you reach walking milestones (e.g. 25 walks).
Walking as part of a group helps you stay motivated, is safer and makes it much more fun too!
