Enjoying healthier food and drinks at events
Caterers for groups and organisations can play an important role in supporting healthy eating, a key step in reducing one's risk of heart disease.

A Healthier Serve: The Heart Foundation’s Guide to healthier catering
A Healthier Serve is a guide to serving healthier food and drinks when catering for a group or organisation. A few simple changes can make a big difference to the food served at your events, proving healthier is still delicious.

Inside the guide are practical tips for healthy options at breakfast, lunch and dinner functions. Also included are ideas for hot and cold finger food, vegetarian options, BBQs and tasty desserts.

Creating a catered functions policy
If you are part of an organisation that provides food regularly, you might like to create your own healthy catered functions policy. It is a good way to make healthier choices easier at your functions, meetings, seminars and events.

Providing a list of allergens
This information sheet shows why and how to provide allergen information to people attending your function.

Choosing a caterer
There will be times when you may need an external caterer and will work with them to cater your event. When selecting an external caterer:
  • chat with them about providing healthier choices
  • give them a copy of your catered functions policy (if you have one)
  • give them a copy of A Healthier Serve
  • discuss the allergen checklist with them or give them the prepared table to complete.
