The 2009 National Award Winners were announced in Melbourne on 29 October.
Since the Local Government Awards were established in 1992, the Heart Foundation has recognised more than 1000 initiatives that have contributed to improving heart health in Australian communities.
The Awards provide an opportunity for Local Governments to celebrate their achievements and receive recognition for their commitment to creating healthier communities.
Initiatives that build a sense of community, encourage people to be active, be smoke free and make healthy food choices are encouraged to enter.
Community groups, schools, health and community organisations and private industries that work with Local Governments are also strongly encouraged to enter.
All applications must either be from the Local Government or have their approval.
